Fishing at Texas Fish Hatchery

Troop 380 will be camping at Purtis Creek State Park. The 355-acre lake features catch-and-release largemouth bass, as well as catfish and crappie that you can keep. You do not need a fishing license to fish here.

Plus 380 scouts will also travel to Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens.
- Aquaria are arranged so as to take visitors through examples of different aquatic habitats in Texas, from Hill Country streams to farm ponds to major reservoirs.
- 380 will be fishing in Lake Zebco, a 1.2-acre pond stocked with channel catfish and sunfish year around, and additionally with rainbow trout during winter. Rods, reels and bait are provided at no charge, and staff and volunteers are on hand in the Brookshire’s Anglers Pavilion to answer questions and render assistance as needed.
